Lottery 2002
Julie – Grand Prize Winner of $1,000,000 TAX FREE CA$H!
“On July 25, 2002 the final draw for $1 million cash, the grand prize in the Million Dollar Lottery, aired live on Global’s BCTV Noon News program, but Lottery organizers could not get in touch the lucky winner, Julie Lichtwer of Surrey.
Organizers called Julie at her work and were informed that she was on holidays. They called her at home only got her voicemail. I was just walking in the door, when I heard the answering machine recording a message, but could not hear the message clearly, exclaimed Julie. A half an hour later when I was washing dishes a friend called and asked me if it was true that I had won the grand prize in The Million Dollar Lottery. Julie received confirmation from the lottery later that afternoon that she was indeed the Grand Prize winner.
Julie had to get in touch with her sister, Jackie, who split the winning ticket with her. Julie, 33, is an Occupational Health & Safety nurse with the Workers’ Compensation Board of BC and Jackie, 32, is a sales representative with a local pharmaceutical company. Both understand the need to support health care and programs for special needs children, seniors and their families in BC.
Julie, her husband and two-year old son just moved into their newly purchased house only a month ago. She and her husband plan to pay off their mortgage. Jackie and her fiancé are getting married in November of this year. We had planned a small wedding due to a lack of affordability, Jackie stated. But now I am going to re-examine the guest list.
After the news had finally sunk in at the end of the day on July 25, 2002, organizers asked Julie if she planned to celebrate that night with her husband and family. Let’s put it this way, Julie replied, I’m not cooking supper tonight or for the rest of the week!” |
